Daven Mincha is a Jewish prayer service held in the late afternoon, generally between 1-2 hours before the sun sets. Mincha is one of the three daily prayers in Judaism, along with Shacharit (morning prayer) and Ma'ariv (night prayer). The word "daven" is Yiddish for "pray" or "worship".
During the Mincha service, the Amidah or "standing prayer" is recited. This prayer consists of a series of blessings, petitions and praise to God. Other prayers recited during the service may include Psalm 145, Ashrei, and the Prayer of Forgiveness. The service concludes with the Aleinu prayer, which expresses the Jewish belief in God and the hope for world peace.
Mincha is an important part of Jewish daily life and is preferably held in a group. It is customary to pause from one's work or activities to pray during Mincha, as it is viewed as a time for spiritual reflection and renewal in the midst of a busy day.
